Team GB triathlete and Olympic gold medalist Alistair Brownlee expresses his desire to compete in the 10km track event at the next Commonwealth Games.

Olympic gold medalist Alistair Brownlee has said that he would "love" to enter the 10km track event at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 24-year-old from Leeds stormed to victory in the triathlon at London 2012 on Tuesday, running the last 10km in a time of 29m 7s.

That was just 97 seconds short of the time set by Team GB's Mo Farah when he won gold in the 10km race at the Olympic Stadium on Super Saturday.

"I've never timed myself doing a 10k on the track. I'd love to do one," said Brownlee. "There's a Commonwealth Games in two years time so I might look into seeing if I could qualify for the 10k as well as doing the triathlon.

"That would be a dream. I think last time the qualifying time for the Commonwealths was 28.50 minutes on the track and I ran 29 minutes so I could do it.

"It would be nice to have a bit of a different challenge just to mix it about a bit."

Britain's Chris Thompson finished 25th in the 10km final in a time of 29m 6s.
