Britain's Dina Asher-Smith: 'I've still got a long way to go'

Dina Asher-Smith tells Sports Mole that she still has a "long way to go" after becoming Britain's fastest woman ever in the 100m in May.

Dina Asher-Smith has claimed that she still has a "long way to go" after becoming the fastest ever British female sprinter in May.

The 19-year-old, who was crowned world junior champion last year, ran 11.02s in Hengelo, Holland and eased her way into the semi-finals of the 100m this afternoon at the British Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

Asher-Smith, who clocked a time of 11.31s in the second heat, has opted against competing in the 200m event at the Alexander Stadium and will also not double up at the World Championships in Beijing next month.

"I've only gone one 100m this season - I was meant to do two 100m, but I've only done one this season so I'm here doing that to get more races in," Asher-Smith told Sports Mole.

"I've made progress, but there's also such a long way to go. Staying determined and staying focused is pretty easy because you just change your sights. Suddenly I think, 'well, people are running this' etc, so I've still got quite a way to go."

The teenager will race for a spot in the 100m final tomorrow afternoon.
