Guy Learmonth: 'Pressure of home fans will make or break us'

Guy Learmonth believes that the pressure of performing in front of the home supporters could be a key factor for Scottish athletes at the Commonwealth Games.

Guy Learmonth has suggested that the pressure of performing in front of Scottish supporters will be a key factor for athletes from the hosting nation at the Commonwealth Games.

The 800m runner is looking forward to competing in front of his fellow Scots at Hampden Park, but he is fully aware that it will be a challenge like no other he has faced.

"I think it will either make or break us," Learmonth told BBC Newcastle. "I got a wee taste of it at the Glasgow International and it definitely gives you something extra.

"It's going to be unbelievable in Hampden so, hopefully, all of us when we step out on the track can just take it all in, embrace it, and produce the goods.

"I relish the big races and love getting myself involved so I'm going to use it to my advantage."

Learmonth's participation in the Commonwealth Games will begin next Tuesday.
