Jon Doig: "Every sport matters"

Team Scotland chef de mission Jon Doig insists that "every sport matters" at this summer's Commonwealth Games.

Team Scotland chef de mission Jon Doig has sent the message that "every sport matters" at this summer's Commonwealth Games.

Doig, who spoke to the gathering media in Glasgow, also said that "every athlete is treated the same" by Team Scotland regardless of their sport.

"I think what it does is send the message that every sport matters," Doig told reporters.

"There are kids in every community who might be the only person that does wrestling. The fact that they will come to the Games and see Scottish wrestlers performing and succeeding means that they can take that back to school.

"Not everybody is good at one particular sport, there is that range which is quite critical and what the Games does is actually say that everyone is important... every athlete is treated the same."

Doig, speaking exclusively to Sports Mole, also praised Scotland's flag bearer Euan Burton.
