Mo Farah wins second Great North Run

Mo Farah beats Stanley Biwott in a tight finish to secure his second consecutive Great North Run title.

World and Olympic champion Mo Farah has won the Great North Run for the second consecutive year after beating Stanley Biwott in a close finish.

The Briton crossed the line in 59:23, beating Biwott by only a second after seeing off the Kenyan challenger in the final stages.

Farah, who retained his 5,000m and 10,000m world titles in Beijing last month, shaved 37 seconds off the time he set in winning last year's Great North Run.

Mary Keitany of Kenya also won for the second year in a row, edging out home favourite Gemma Steel.

There were also victories for David Weir, who took his sixth men's wheelchair crown, and for Shelly Woods, who cruised to her seventh victory in the event.
