Piotr Malachowski claims discus title

Poland's Piotr Malachowski wins gold in the men's discus throw at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

Poland's Piotr Malachowski has won the discus event at the World Athletics Championships for the first time in his career, having twice had to settle for silver.

The 32-year-old completed a throw of 67.40m with his second attempt in the final, finishing 0.5m ahead of his nearest rival.

Belgium's Philip Milanov claimed the silver with a throw of 66.90m, setting a new national record, while Malachowski's teammate Robert Urbanek completed the podium.

Jamaica's Fedrick Dacres put in the biggest throw in qualifying, but was unable to match the distance in the final, settling for a seventh-placed finish.
