Justin Gatlin ready to hand over Olympic medal

Justin Gatlin says that he will return the silver medal that he won with the USA's 4x100m relay team in London.

Justin Gatlin has said that he has no problems giving up the silver medal that he won as part of the USA's 4x100m relay team at the 2012 Olympic Games.

The Americans were stripped of their medals due to Tyson Gay's drugs ban after testing positive for a banned anabolic steroid.

Gay had already returned his medal last May, but now his teammates Gatlin, Trell Kimmons, Ryan Bailey, Jeff Demps and Darvis Patton have been ordered by the International Olympic Committee to follow suit by handing in their own medals.

"The rules are the rules ... and if the committee says we have to return it, I'm going to follow the rules. I honestly don't mind giving it back if it wasn't won fairly," he told TMZ.

"He has apologised for his actions and asked for public forgiveness. So now it's time to move on from that.

"I know we have another chance coming up in Rio – and we just started off the season beating the Jamaicans at the world championships."

Gatlin has previously been banned on two separate occasions for doping offences.
