Valerie Adams "proud and honoured" to carry New Zealand flag

Two-time Olympic champion Valerie Adams says that she is "proud and honoured" to have been chosen as New Zealand's flag bearer at the Glasgow 2014 opening ceremony.

New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adams has said that she is "proud and honoured" to be carrying the flag at the opening ceremony in Glasgow's Celtic Park tomorrow.

The 29-year-old, who is competing at her fourth Commonwealth Games, was named as the nation's representative earlier today.

"I'm really proud and honoured to have the opportunity to walk our team into the opening ceremony tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it," Adams told ONE News.

"I went to my first Commonwealth Games when I was 17 in 2002 and to be my fourth games this time is actually quite extraordinary."

The two-time Olympic gold medallist has also said that she is already looking forward to competing next Wednesday.

"It should be good. I am looking forward to having the good competition and trying to defend my title for the third time," she added.

Adams is the most successful female shot putter in history.
