The 32-year-old completed the course in 2:25.45, finishing just ahead of compatriot Caroline Kilel in damp conditions.

Following their win in the men's marathon earlier, there was another medal for Australia as Jess Trengove passed Namibia's Helalia Johannes in the final couple of miles to secure the bronze.

Daniel's time was just four minutes outside her personal best, which she set in the Paris Marathon earlier this year.
