Michael Johnson: 'Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce the greatest female sprinter ever'

Michael Johnson declares Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce as the greatest female sprinter of all time following her gold medal in the 100m at the World Athletics Championships.

Michael Johnson has declared Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce as the greatest female sprinter of all time following her success at the World Athletics Championships.

The 28-year-old won a third 100m world title on Monday, successfully defending her crown to claim a sixth gold medal at the Championships overall.

Johnson believes that her achievements have been slightly overshadowed by those of compatriot Usain Bolt, but is in no doubt as to her place in the sprinting annals.

"Were it not for her career coinciding with Bolt's, I think she would be a lot bigger than she is," eight-time world champion Johnson told BBC Sport.

"She's an amazing athlete, a great person and is highly revered in Jamaica. She's a great champion and very humble.

"And given the titles she has won you would have to say she is the greatest female sprinter of all time."

Fraser-Pryce has also won the last two Olympic titles over 100m.
