O'Dayne Richards wins Jamaica's first athletics gold in the men's shot put

A record-breaking throw of 21.61m secures Jamaica their first athletics gold of the Commonwealth Games as O'Dayne Richards claims victory in the men's shot put final.

Jamaica have claimed their first athletics gold of the Commonwealth Games as O'Dayne Richards stormed to victory in the men's shot put final.

The 25-year-old threw a Commonwealth Games record of 21.61m to take the win ahead of the much-fancied Tom Walsh of New Zealand, who threw 21.19m.

Richards's record-breaking effort came on his fourth throw as he usurped Walsh, who had held the lead.

Canadian champion Tim Nedow claimed bronze with a throw of 20.59m.
