Sophie Papps seeking improvement after qualifying for 100m Commonwealth semis

English teenager Sophie Papps has her eye on a faster time in the women's 100m semi-finals tomorrow.

Team England sprinter Sophie Papps has urged herself to improve her time in the 100m after qualifying for the Commonwealth Games semi-finals.

Papps was only competing today after she was called up as a reserve just four days ago and was just pipped to victory by Canada's Khamica Bingham and Michell-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago, still achieving automatic qualification in third.

"It was really good, it was really exciting," the 19-year-old told Sports Mole after the race. "I'm pleased to get a run as I was only told that I was competing on Thursday.

"I'm really looking forward to [the semis] now. There's things in that race that went well and things that didn't go so well. I can now get another run in tomorrow and it's fresh in the mind what you've got to do, so hopefully I can come out tomorrow and run better."

It was Papps's second time at Hampden Park after the Diamond League meet earlier this month.

"It was incredible when we ran here at the Diamond League two weekends ago, but it was outstanding today," she added. "I'm so glad that I got a chance to run in it."

The two other women's 100m runners for England, Asha Philip and Bianca Williams, also made it through to tomorrow evening's semi-finals.
