Team England's Mukhtar Mohammed has admitted that he is "disappointed" to have let his third-place lead slip during qualifying for the men's 800m semi-final at the Commonwealth Games this afternoon.
The 23-year-old still managed to join teammate Michael Rimmer in the next round of the event by qualifying as a fast loser, but could have sealed his fate automatically had he not let Mozambique's Alberto Mamba edge ahead in the final stretch.
"I'm disappointed," Mohammed told Sports Mole afterwards. "I didn't keep my performance up in the last 50m. In the end I thought I was strong but the other guy got me. I don't know what to say, I'm really disappointed."
Mohammed added that he has "definitely more to come" in the semi-finals and will take inspiration from the crowd at Glasgow's Hampden Park, saying: "I loved [the reception]. You see the people out there and it's crazy when they say my name. I've loved it."
The semi-finals of the men's 800m take place on Wednesday night from 8.55pm.
