Team England Chef de Mission Jan Paterson: Mo Farah loss a "real blow"

Chef de Mission of Team England Jan Paterson admits that losing Mo Farah to illness for the Commonwealth Games is a big loss.

Team England's Chef de Mission Jan Paterson has admitted that the loss of Mo Farah from the athletics team at the Commonwealth Games is a "real blow" to the athlete and the country.

Earlier today it was confirmed that Farah had withdrawn from the event in Glasgow after failing to recover from illness in time to compete.

"It is a real blow for any athlete to miss out on a major championships through injury, but to have fought so hard to regain full fitness and to have to take such a difficult decision at this stage is particularly hard," Paterson said in a statement.

"We wish Mo all the very best and hope to see him back to his peak very soon."

The athletics competitions begin on July 27.
