It was far from comfortable for the Colombian in the final, but she produced a season's best with her fourth attempt to record a jump of 14.90m.

Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko had led for much of the early stages with 14.78m, before Ibarguen proved her class when it mattered most to force the Israeli to settle for a silver medal.

After looking set to miss out on a medal heading into the sixth and final attempt, Kazakhstan's Olga Rypakova registered a jump of 14.77m to clinch bronze ahead of Gabriela Petrova of Bulgaria.
