Australia's Sally Pearson is through to the semi-finals of the 100m hurdles after coming first in her heat in 12.57s.

Olympic 100m hurdles favourite Sally Pearson has started well in her campaign for gold after clinching the quickest time in heat 5 of the 100m hurdles qualifiers.

The Australian finished the race in 12.57s after blasting out of the blocks to leave her competitors behind.

Pearson, who is expected to clinch gold in the final tomorrow, has only been defeated twice in three years following her recent stumble at the London Grand Prix.

Reina-Flor Okori for France claimed the second qualifying spot, while Carolin Nytra won a spot in the next round just behind her.

Meanwhile, Great Britain's Tiffany Porter has clinched a spot in the semi-finals after finishing third in heat one this morning.
