Nicky Hunt has admitted to having mixed feelings about beating fellow Great Britain competitor Naomi Folkard in their women's individual archery round-of-32 eliminations match earlier today.
Three-time Olympic champion Folkard fell to a surprise 6-0 defeat at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium to put an end to her hopes of claiming European Games gold in this event.
Hunt will now face Russian Federation's Natalia Erdynieva for a place in the quarter-finals, but the 30-year-old says that advancing through felt bittersweet.
"Its obviously good to win," she told reporters. "It sucks to be shooting against a teammate. The only positive from that is that one of us is going to get through to the next round.
"It's not taekwondo, we're not trying to kick each other in the head and tactics don't really come in to play. We're just standing in front of a target and you've gotta keep your brain on your own thing.
"It's not a pleasing feeling in that the best scenario right now would be that all three of us would be in different parts of the cut and we are all going towards the gold match."
Hunt won gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
