Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has reiterated that his recovery from injury is going well.

Griffin was again forced to watch his team from the sidelines as they ran out 24-13 winners over the Pittsburgh Steelers in a pre-season match last night, with coach Mike Shanahan maintaining his cautious approach to Griffin's rehabilitation.

The 23-year-old was examined by Dr James Andrews for the first time since July before the match, and Griffin confirmed that he is on schedule to be fit for the first game of the regular season on September 9.

"He says everything looks good. We've just got to keep going from here," Griffin told ESPN.

Griffin, who has publicly criticised Shanahan's approach to his recovery schedule, appeared before the match wearing a white T-shirt bearing the words 'operation patience' before dressing in full kit to watch the encounter.
