The Washington Redskins have appointed Sean McVay as their new offensive coordinator.
McVay has spent the last three seasons in charge of the Redskins' tight ends but, following Jay Gruden's appointment as new head coach, he has now been promoted to offensive coordinator.
The duo previously worked together at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for one season, where they both acted as offensive assistants.
The 27-year-old is highly rated by the Redskins, with general manager Bruce Allen keen on keeping him with the team despite firing head coach Mike Shanahan after a disappointing 2013 season.
Gruden has already outlined his intention to be the play-caller for the Redskins, meaning that McVay's main duty is likely to be formulating the offence's gameplans.
The Redskins are yet to clarify their defensive coordinator to work alongside McVay and Gruden, but the incumbent Jim Haslett is expected to continue in the role.
