Tanard Jackson released by Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins release free safety Tanard Jackson just hours after he had been reinstated by the NFL.

The Washington Redskins have released free safety Tanard Jackson on the same day that he had been reinstated by the NFL.

Jackson had been suspended by the league since August 31, 2012 due to a violation of their substance-abuse policy, but was given the green light to compete again earlier today.

However, the Redskins have opted against keeping the 28-year-old for the 2014 season, terminating his contract in order to save $700,000 (£412,000).

Jackson joined the Redskins from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012 but did not play a single match for the team due to his suspension.

Washington general manager Bruce Allen said earlier today that the team "might" give him a chance, but they have instead chosen to stick with veteran Ryan Clark after Jackson underwent a medical and had a meeting with team officials.
