Michael Sam has become the first openly gay player in the NFL after being selected by the St Louis Rams in the 2014 Draft.

The 24-year-old announced that he was gay earlier this year before the selection process began, and received much acclaim for doing so, winning the ESPN Courage award.

The former Missouri Tigers defensive end has now entered the NFL after the Rams decided to select him in the seventh round of Draft with the 249th pick.

Sam recorded 48 tackles and 11.5 sacks in the 2013 season for the Tigers.
