Smith aiming emulate brother Steve and join sibling winners club

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith hopes to repeat the trick of his Super Bowl-winning brother Steve against the Denver Broncos this Sunday.

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith is hoping to join six brother combinations that have won the Super Bowl when he takes to the field against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Smith's brother Steve was part of a victorious New York Giants side in 2008, and the siblings could join Peyton and Eli Manning, Bubba and Tody Smith, Matt and Chris Bahr, Jim and Keith Fahnhorst, Chris and Ma'ake Kemoeatu and Darren and Jamie Sharper as brothers who have played for Super Bowl-winning teams.

It was Smith's interception against the San Francisco 49ers - tipped by Richard Sherman - which resulted in the Seahawks reaching the season finale, and he now hopes to have a big impact again this weekend.

He told reporters: "I would love to join that brothers club. That would be a cool honour. I just remember being in the stands and after Steve's Giants won in 2008. I got onto the field and seeing how happy the guys were. We want that.

"As for the play, I'm sure when I get older I'll think about it. To me, it really was just a play."

Smith was a late-round Draft pick for the Seahawks in 2011.
