Ian Rapoport: 'Mike Tomlin's job is safe'

Mike Tomlin will not be fired as Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, says NFL Network analyst Ian Rapoport.

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin should not fear for his job, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

The analyst announced via his Twitter account on Thursday that the Steelers man will not be sacked and it is the players rather than Tomlin who is under fire.

Rapoport tweeted: "I'm told #Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's job is safe for the 2014 season, despite the struggles. Why is Mike Tomlin's job safe? Besides that the organization believes in him? The Rooneys (owners) aren't like that. Believe in stability.

"Some changes may be coming to Pittsburgh, especially to veterans like Troy Polamalu and Ryan Clark. They have to play very well to return."

Tomlin has led the Steelers to four AFC North titles and two Super Bowl appearances in his seven years as coach.
