Oakland Raiders hire Ken Norton Jr as defensive coordinator

The Oakland Raiders confirm that they have hired Ken Norton Jr as their new defensive coordinator for the 2015 season.

The Oakland Raiders have announced that they have hired Ken Norton Jr as their new defensive coordinator.

The Raiders allowed former coordinator Jason Tarver to leave the club at the end of the season as new head coach Jack Del Rio planned to bring in his own members of staff.

Norton spent the last five seasons as linebackers coach at the Seattle Seahawks, where he helped guide the club to a Super Bowl triumph in the 2013 season.

The 48-year-old will now serve as a coordinator for the first time in his coaching career as he assumes control of a defense that ranked 21st in the league in yards allowed in the 2014 campaign.

Norton played in the NFL for 13 seasons as a linebacker with the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers.
