The Oakland Raiders have named rookie Derek Carr as their starting quarterback ahead of veteran Matt Schaub.
Schaub arrived in Oakland this summer after spending seven seasons starting for the Houston Texans, but he will not start life with his new team as the top-choice signal caller.
"Not an indictment on Matt Schaub, Derek Carr is mature beyond his years. We feel very comfortable with him helping us win football games. Derek is the starting quarterback," coach Dennis Allen said, ESPN reports.
Carr was a second-round pick from Fresno State but he is now expected to be the only rookie quarterback to start in week one as the Raiders face the New York Jets.
