Rex Ryan: 'EJ Manuel has been very impressive'

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan admits that he has been impressed by Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel so far this season.

Rex Ryan has described EJ Manuel's performances in his first two NFL games as "very impressive".

The Buffalo Bills quarterback, who was selected in the first round of this year's Draft, saw his side narrowly beaten by the New England Patriots in the opening week, before completing a late game-winning touchdown pass to Stevie Johnson against the Carolina Panthers last Sunday.

The New York Jets head coach told reporters: "He was an outstanding young man, very impressive. No doubt, very impressive. You notice the physical, when he walks in the door he fills up that doorway. But he was really a tremendous person and you can see why Buffalo's excited about him.

"I noticed with EJ, he's only been sacked the one time. The ball is coming out of his hands quick. He's throwing a lot of passes to the backs as well. But that's something you definitely have to be mindful of.

"I don't know if we can match the tempo that Buffalo's offense has with their no-huddle, but we're certainly giving it a shot. All last week we got ready to play New England with their tempo, probably faster than anybody in the league, and then they came out and they slowed it up on us. But either way, we'll be ready for it."

The AFC East rivals meet on Sunday.
