The New England Patriots will become the first NFL team to offer discounts to fans who buy a jersey of a player who is no longer under contract with the team within a year of the purchase.
Fans will receive a 25% discount towards the price of the next Patriots jersey they buy in an initiative aimed at doing more to give fans confidence to buy jerseys.
New England took the unprecedented move of allowing anyone who had bought a jersey of Aaron Hernandez to exchange it for the jersey of another player last year.
Tim Tebow and LaGarrette Blount were both popular jerseys but while the former was cut before last season started, the latter left in March.
