Logan Mankins "disappointed" by Jerod Mayo injury

New England Patriots guard Logan Mankins is "disappointed" by the news that linebacker Jerod Mayo will not feature again this season due to injury.

New England Patriots guard Logan Mankins has admitted that he is "disappointed" to lose linebacker Jerod Mayo to injury.

Mayo was placed on season-ending injured reserve earlier today having undergone surgery on a torn pectoral muscle that he suffered in Sunday's 30-27 win over the New Orleans Saints.

The 27-year-old is the second of the Patriots' defensive captains to be ruled out for the season after Vince Wilfork, and Mankins - who is also a captain - admitted that it was a blow for his side.

"That's always disappointing. Jerod, he's a good guy, a good teammate, good player, so we're disappointed to lose him," Mankins told reporters.

The Patriots will face the New York Jets in their next match as they look to improve on their 5-1 start to the season.
