Roger Goodell: 'Deflategate investigation nearly complete'

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reveals that the investigation into the deflategate scandal is almost completed.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has revealed that the report into the deflategate scandal is on the verge of being completed.

The league confirmed it was investigating reports that the New England Patriots intentionally deflated footballs in their AFC championship win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft staunchly denied the accusations, which were reportedly brought to the league's attention by Colts general manager Ryan Grigson.

Goodell told the MMQB.com: "The most important thing is to get the right information, to get the facts and the truth. We determined that we should bring [criminal attorney] Ted Wells to further the investigation.

"We haven't given him a timetable except to be thorough, be fair and get to the truth. When he's completed his report, that will be made public as well as to all of us.

"I haven't spoken to [Wells] for several weeks. I think he's getting near the end [of his investigation], but there's no requirement when. I'm not going to get into what we knew and when we knew it because that's part of what [Wells is] investigating. I can tell you that I was not personally aware of it until after the game."

The Patriots were docked a first-round Draft pick and fined over $750,000 (£501,000) in the spygate scandal in 2007.
