Minnesota Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel intends to void his contract with the franchise, according to a report on ESPN.
Cassel fought off competition from Josh Freeman and Christian Ponder to become the Vikings' starter for the last month of the campaign, and it now seems that he is hoping his form in 2013 will earn him a bigger contract elsewhere on the open market.
The 31 year-old was to make $3.7m (£2.3m) in 2014 with the Vikings, but both parties had an option on the deal, with Cassel deciding to exercise his and look for a new challenge.
The Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders and even the Vikings themselves are all supposedly in the hunt for a new quarterback, so Cassel is likely to find a new home.
With Cassel leaving Minnesota and Freeman already gone, new head coach Mike Zimmer has Ponder as his only signal caller on his current roster.
