Greg Jennings: 'Matt Cassel will help Teddy Bridgewater'

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Greg Jennings believes that first-round Draft pick Teddy Bridgewater will benefit from being on the same roster as Matt Cassel.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Greg Jennings believes that Teddy Bridgewater will benefit from being on the same roster as Matt Cassel.

Bridgewater became the final first-round pick of the 2014 NFL Draft yesterday, with the Vikings trading up to select the quarterback.

He is likely to spend his first season as backup to Cassel in Minnesota, but Jennings believes that the incumbent starter will do everything to help his teammate improve despite being in direct competition for a starting role.

"If I were a quarterback, I would want Matt to be my teacher. I would want to be behind a guy like Matt, because he approaches the game like a true professional," Jennings told reporters.

"He's not afraid of helping those who are pursuing his position. He's just not. His makeup is, 'Look, if we can all be better, our team is going to get better.'"

Jennings also expressed his excitement at working with Bridgewater, who was once predicted to be among the first selected in the Draft but saw his stock fall after he struggled at his pro day in March.

"What I know about him is, he's a hard worker, he's a smart kid and he wants to get better. Just that alone, it makes you want to work with someone," he added.

The Vikings will begin their 2014 campaign against the St Louis Rams on September 7.
