Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jonathan Martin has been placed on his side's non-football illness list, according to reports.
It is thought that the Dolphins will continue to pay the player's salary, though rules permit that Miami do not have to officially do so.
Players can return from the NFI list to play again in the season if their placement is related to substance abuse. However, this is not the case with Martin, who has been the subject of apparent racist abuse, meaning he will not be eligible to play again this season.
Rumours are now beginning to circulate as to who will take on Martin as of next term, with both the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers said to be interested in the player.
