Charles Clay: 'We wanted to win for Joe Philbin'

Miami Dolphins tight end Charles Clay admits that his side wanted to win their clash against the San Diego Chargers for Joe Philbin in light of family bereavement.

Miami Dolphins tight end Charles Clay has revealed that his side were determined to win their clash against the San Diego Chargers for head coach Joe Philbin.

Philbin sustained a family tragedy during the week with the death of his father, but he returned to lead the team on Sunday to a convincing 37-0 victory to prove their playoff credentials in the AFC.

"It's big when you lose someone in your family. That's something no-one can prepare for." Clay told reporters. "But he came back, and you could never tell just from talking to him that he's going through something like that.

"He's a tough individual - probably one of the toughest individuals that I've been around. It shows in the way we played today. To come out here and get a win for him is big."

The Dolphins are 5-3 in their season following their victory over the Chargers.
