Gary Kubiak has confirmed that DeAndre Hopkins is close to returning from a concussion.
The Houston Texans wide receiver sustained the head injury during the team's pre-season game against the Miami Dolphins earlier this month.
The head coach told reporters: "Yes, there was [a chance for him to play against the Dallas Cowboys last night] but in all honesty he hasn't passed the final test. So, he would have liked to play 10 or 12 plays, but he's not finished yet.
"He's fine. I think if we weren't here in Dallas and we were back with our doctors in Houston, he would pass it today. So, I don't see any problem."
The Texans play the San Diego Chargers in their opening game of the regular season.
