Andre Johnson: 'I try to lead by example'

Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson believes that leading by example is the best way to get the most out of his teammates.

Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson has urged his side to "send a message" to other teams in pre-season.

Johnson played a major role in his side's latest warm-up match on Sunday but was unable to prevent them losing 31-23 to the New Orleans Saints.

The 32-year-old caught seven passes for 131 yards in a single half of play and believes that leading by example is the most effective way of inspiring teammates to produce their best.

"You definitely try to send a message that you're ready to go," Johnson is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"I think by going out and showing guys that you're ready to go, that makes them step their game up. That's what I try to do. I'm not a big rah-rah guy. I just try to lead by example.

"When I'm out on the field, whether it's 10 plays or 70 plays I'm going to give everything I got. So that's what I did."

Johnson is currently in his 10th year with the Texans, having joined them as a first-round draft pick in 2003.
