Detroit Lions make negotiations with Ndamukong Suh a priority

Detroit Lions coach Jim Caldwell insists that agreeing on an extension with Ndamukong Suh is a priority for the franchise.

Detroit Lions coach Jim Caldwell has insisted that negotiations with Ndamukong Suh regarding a new contract will be the franchise's priority now that the season is over.

Following the Lions' loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Suh had an emotional news conference where he broke down in tears.

The 28-year-old is eligible to become a free agent when the new league year starts on March 10 while Detroit stopped negotiations on an extension before this past season as they wanted to focus on the campaign.

"That will continue to be one of our highest priorities," Caldwell told the media. "That's going to be addressed constantly here until we come to some conclusion."

The Lions drafted Suh with the second overall pick in the 2010 Draft out of Nebraska and he has made 238 tackles, had 36 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception in 78 games over the past five seasons.
