Jim Schwartz: 'Matt Stafford will remain as quarterback'

Jim Schwartz has said that he has never considered making a change to the quarterback position, despite Matthew Stafford's poor form.

Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz has said that Matthew Stafford will definitely retain his position as the team's first-choice quarterback.

Stafford threw three interceptions and just a single touchdown during Monday's defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, and has helped the team to just one win in their last five games to dent their playoff hopes.

Despite his poor form, Schwartz has strenuously denied that Stafford's future in the team is in doubt.

He told reporters: "I haven't considered making a change, no. Matt's our quarterback. He's going to remain our quarterback, and he's going to play well for us. The answer is no.

"When would you have made that change? Would you have made it before that drive when we took the lead? Is that when you would have made that change? Would you have made it after we threw a touchdown pass that gave us the lead? Is that the time to replace him? No, of course not."

Stafford has thrown for 4,211 yards and 28 touchdowns in his 14 appearances so far this season.
