Detroit Lions re-sign Brandon Pettigrew

The Detroit Lions re-sign starting tight end Brandon Pettigrew on a four-year deal worth a reported $16m.

The Detroit Lions have re-signed starting tight end Brandon Pettigrew on a four-year contract, the team have announced.

Pettigrew's new deal is worth a reported $16m (£9.6m), including $8m (£4.8m) guaranteed, and gives the Lions more depth at tight end with only Joseph Fauria and Michael Williams to call upon otherwise.

The 29-year-old has been with the Lions since he was chosen in the first round of the 2009 Draft, and he noted that his love for the city of Detroit was a major factor behind his decision to re-sign.

"I love the city. I'm grateful for being able to be here. The city is going through changes as is the organization," Pettigrew told the club's official website.

Pettigrew had 41 receptions for 416 yards and two touchdowns last season.
