Calvin Johnson: 'We knew we could win'

Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson insists that his side always believed that they could beat the Dallas Cowboys yesterday despite a number of fans leaving before their dramatic late comeback.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has claimed that his side always had faith that they could win yesterday's match against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Lions trailed by six points with just a minute of the match remaining but embarked on a quickfire 80-yard drive that culminated with quarterback Matthew Stafford going over from a yard out to seal a dramatic 31-30 win for his side.

A number of the home fans missed the comeback having left the match early, but Johnson insists that his side always believed that they could turn it around.

"Even our fans didn't think we could pull this one out. They were leaving, but we knew we could do it," Johnson told the Associated Press.

Johnson went for 329 receiving yards in the match, the second highest single-game total in NFL history, and he admitted that he was surprised at the repeated one-on-one coverage he was given by the defence.

"It was crazy. We had a lot of one-on-one coverage today, and we were able to take advantage and hit some deep balls. Matt made some great throws to me," he added.

Following the performance, Lions running back Reggie Bush expressed his belief that Johnson was the greatest receiver in NFL history.
