John Elway pens new Denver Broncos deal

The Denver Broncos extend the contract of executive vice president of football operations John Elway to the end of the 2017 season.

The Denver Broncos have announced that John Elway has signed a three-year contract extension with the franchise.

Executive vice president of football operations Elway is now under contract through to the end of the 2017 season, and he also becomes the club's general manager as part of the deal.

In a statement, Broncos president Joe Ellis said: "Our organisation is extremely pleased with the work John Elway has done in his three years since rejoining the Broncos.

"He has demonstrated great vision and leadership in his role, assembling a championship-caliber team and positioning it for sustained success."

The Broncos have made the playoffs every season during Elway's tenure so far. His contract extension follows that of defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, who signed a new deal of his own last week.
