Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones: 'Brandon Weeden can step up to replace Tony Romo'

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes that quarterback Brandon Weeden can step up to replace the void left by Tony Romo's injury.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has revealed that he is confident that Brandon Weeden can be a solid replacement for injured quarterback Tony Romo.

The 31-year-old was selected in the first round of the 2012 Draft by the Cleveland Browns, but struggled in his first two seasons with the AFC North side before he was released by the club.

Dallas signed Weeden as a free agent to serve as backup to Romo, but he has now been pressed into starting due for seven matches after the 35-year-old was placed on IR-return due to a fractured clavicle.

"This quarterback Weeden can drive the ball down field," Jones told KRLD-FM. "He's a thing of beauty on throwing a football.

"His passing motion and his arm, frankly, you won't see a more gifted passer, power, accuracy, the entire aspect of it.

"If he can basically prepare, be the starting quarterback, come in and execute and keep his head right, then I feel good about Weeden."

Weeden has thrown for 5,492 yards and 27 touchdowns to 28 interceptions in his four seasons in the NFL.
