Donte Whitner decides against changing his name to 'Hitner'

Cleveland Browns safety Donte Whitner says that the hassle of changing all his legal documents has dissuaded him from removing the 'W' from his surname.

New Cleveland Browns safety Donte Whitner has decided against changing his surname legally.

Whitner pondered calling himself 'Hitner', in reference to his nickname as a defensive hard man of the league.

However, the altering of all his legal documents, including car titles, mortgages and credit cards, dissuaded him from making the change.

He told reporters: "All for one letter change? I'd rather not. I think the majority of people will call me 'Hitner' regardless to be honest.

"Maybe I'll just tell people the 'W' is silent from now on."

Whitner also admitted that he spoke to former NFL star Chad Johnson, who for a brief time became Chad Ochocinco, with Johnson explaining the complications of a legal name change.
