Cris Carter: 'Release could be best thing for Josh Gordon'

Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter believes that being released by the Cleveland Browns could be the best course of action for Josh Gordon.

Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter has expressed his belief that the Cleveland Browns should release Josh Gordon for his own good.

The 23-year-old was arrested on Saturday for driving while impaired, and is already facing a one-year suspension from the NFL after failing a drug test earlier in the off-season.

Carter struggled with off-the-field issues himself before having a very successful career in the NFL and feels that being cut could be the best thing to happen to Gordon.

"I feel for the kid," Carter said on Mike & Mike. "My situation was very, very similar. If I'm the Cleveland Browns — and it's gut-wrenching for me to say this — I really think that the only thing that's going to help the kid is if they release him.

"When they took that away, that was my reality, and that was the catalyst to get me on the road to recovery."

Gordon was named an All-Pro in the 2013 season after recording 87 receptions for 1,646 yards and seven touchdowns for the Browns.
