Desmond Bryant to undergo heart procedure

Cleveland Browns defensive end Desmond Bryant will miss the rest of the season to undergo a procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat.

Desmond Bryant has been ruled out for the rest of the 2013 NFL season after being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.

The Cleveland Browns defensive end, who has been placed on the team's non-football injury list, will undergo a procedure to correct the problem later this week.

Head coach Rob Chudzinski told the club's website: "It's disappointing. He's been playing at a high level for us and certainly, right now, the most important thing is for him to get that taken care of and be ready to go. We're expecting a full recovery."

Defensive coordinator Ray Horton added: "I'm sure this is more of a precautionary deal with him. We monitor players' conditioning, from weight to heart rate to everything.

"I'm sure that this is just something that came up, and they're doing the right thing, medically, for him. You want players to be healthy, and we're taking care of that step for him."

The 27-year-old has made 31 tackles and 3.5 sacks for the AFC North side this year.
