Cleveland Browns ticket sales soar after Johnny Manziel pick

Cleveland Browns president Alec Scheiner reveals that the team sold more than 1,500 season tickets in the 12 hours after they chose Johnny Manziel in the Draft.

Cleveland Browns president Alec Scheiner has revealed that the team's season ticket sales have soared since they picked Johnny Manziel in last night's NFL Draft.

Manziel had been expected to be picked in the top 10, with some experts predicting he would be chosen first overall, but in the end the former Texas A&M Aggies quarterback slipped to 22nd, where the Browns snapped him up.

Scheiner revealed that the team had sold more than 1,500 season tickets in the 12 hours immediately after Manziel was picked, but insists that the decision to draft the 21-year-old was entirely for football reasons.

"We know right now that every one of our games is going to be sold out for next season," Scheiner told ESPN.

"The beauty of picking Johnny was that this was a football decision only. It had nothing to do with business in any way. The fact that he's an incredibly popular athlete wasn't factored in at all."

The Browns also chose cornerback Justin Gilbert with the eighth overall pick, which had been acquired following trades with the Buffalo Bills and the Minnesota Vikings.
