Cleveland Browns cut linebacker D'Qwell Jackson

D'Qwell Jackson is released by the Cleveland Browns after eight seasons with the franchise, including a team-leading year in tackles last term.

Linebacker D'Qwell Jackson has been released by the Cleveland Browns.

Despite leading the team in tackles last term, Jackson was due a roster bonus of $4.1m (£2.45m) next month, after signing a five-year deal back in 2012.

The 30-year-old was expecting to stay with the team beyond the off-season, but with changes to their front office and management, the Browns made their decision to cut him.

In a statement on the team's official site, Jackson said: "To the people of Cleveland and Browns fans everywhere: Eight years ago I began a journey that blessed me with the opportunity to be a part of a wonderful organization and community.

"I want to take this time to thank each and every one of you for opening your arms and hearts to my family and me, and for making Cleveland an easy place to love and call home. It's been an honor playing in front of you."

Jackson was a second-round Draft pick in 2006 and has made almost 100 starts for the franchise since.
