Cleveland Browns confirm Brian Hoyer out for season

The Cleveland Browns confirm that quarterback Brian Hoyer has torn his ACL and as a result will be out for the rest of the season.

The Cleveland Browns have confirmed that quarterback Brian Hoyer is out for the season after tearing his ACL.

Hoyer sustained the injury during the first quarter of his side's win over the Buffalo Bills as he ran and slid to the ground, but landed awkwardly leading to a tear in his knee ligament.

The 27-year-old was starting just his third game for the Browns after guiding them to two victories in his first two games after replacing Brandon Weeden.

Hoyer will now be placed on injured reserve and may have to undergo surgery, which will will rule him out for six months and as a result the 2013 season.

The Browns are 3-2 in their campaign following their win over the Bills.
