Miles Austin placed on Cleveland Browns injured reserve list

Wide receiver Miles Austin will miss the rest of the season after suffering a kidney injury over the weekend.

Cleveland Browns wideout Miles Austin has been ruled out for the remainder of the NFL campaign and placed on the team's injured reserve list.

The former Dallas Cowboys man was hospitalised with a kidney ailment on Sunday, sustaining the problem while the team were in Buffalo for the game against the Bills.

Josh Gordon's return from suspension has seen Austin's role in the side wane during the past two weekends, but he was still a solid option, having caught 47 passes for 568 yards and two touchdowns since his summer move from Texas.

Austin's coach Mike Pettine told reporters: "Miles sustained a kidney injury in Buffalo and remains in the hospital.

"Our thoughts are with him and we wish him a speedy recovery.

"Miles is a guy who embodies what 'Play like a Brown' means and instils that in our receiving corps."

The Browns host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, with Pettine announcing earlier today that Brian Hoyer will continue as starting quarterback.
