Mark McCall's men, who remain a point adrift of Saints in the standings, had to come from behind to register the win after Ian Witten crossed for the Chiefs within 10 minutes, with Gareth Steenson adding the two-point conversion.

Charlie Hodgson converted a James Johnston try on 34 minutes as both outfits went in level at 7-7 at the break.

Schalk Brits touched down for the hosts eight minutes after the restart, with Hodgson again equal to the conversion to open up a four-point lead after Steenson found the posts with a penalty early in the half.

The hosts soon pulled away, though, as Hodgson added a further nine points to the scoreline to establish a 13-point lead with the visitors having no reply.
