Geordan Murphy considers retiring from the Ireland squad.

Leicester full-back Geordan Murphy has revealed that he is considering retiring from international rugby with Ireland.

The 33-year-old, who has racked up 72 appearances for his national side, is yet to make the final decision on his future.

"I am weighing up my options and I will probably make a call on it just before the Six Nations," BBC Sport quotes Murphy as saying.

Despite his potential choice to step down, Murphy isn't convinced that there will be an exodus from the Ireland squad.

"I do not think many of them will hang up their boots," he added. "If you are based in Ireland, you are centrally contracted so it would not be smart to retire."

A number of Ireland players including Brian O'Driscoll and Ronan O'Gara are believed to be weighing up an exit from the national team.
